Please join us in wishing our superstar volunteers Chie Jisaka, Trish Graham and Glenda Mindlin birthday wishes for their birthdays in March! Every volunteer is unique and we’d like to invite you to get to know them better in their answers to our fun Q and A below. We recently shared Chie’s Q and A when she joined our team, so if you missed it you can read it here.  Say hello to our wonderful volunteers next time you come by the Crafthouse our store on Granville Island!

Trish Graham artist and volunteer

Trish Graham shares her vast knowledge of fibre and jewellery art with our team and customers. We also appreciate her cheerful attitude and love of supporting local craft artists. Happy Birthday for the 14th Trish!

What inspires you to be part of the Craft Council of BC’s volunteer team?

I volunteer to be part of the team as a way to give back to my community, but also as a way to connect with artists and crafts people. I had lived overseas in West Africa for 20 years, and recently returned to Vancouver to enroll in the textile arts program at Capilano University. Now that I have graduated, I wanted a way to become a part of the vibrant community of crafts people in Vancouver. Being part of the Craft House team has been a perfect way to achieve this goal. I have met a number of supportive and exciting artists, but also a number of interesting customers.

Can you share a fun fact about yourself?

I am an emerging tapestry artist, and I spend every Tuesday with a great group of weavers at the Silver Harbour Center in North Vancouver. This dynamic group of women weavers range in age from 55 to 93 and there is no challenge they won’t try.

What is it about craft that you are most passionate about?

I have been a creator all my life; my early memories are sitting under my mother’s sewing machine, playing with scraps of fabric. I can’t imagine not having at least one piece of embroidery or sewing on the go. Now I am learning weaving, and can’t wait to get my new table loom working.

We are so grateful to have Glenda Mindlin as a member of our team and especially appreciate her enthusiasm and willingness to help.  We also admire her fantastic taste and sense of style! Happy Birthday for the 29th Glenda!

What inspires you to be part of the Craft Council of BC’s volunteer team?

It is both stimulating and a bit intimidating as I have never done sales before and want to feel confident about the artists and craft.

Can you share a fun fact about yourself?

I love to cook and used to think I would open a bakery.  In my quest to pursue this I had in my basement several jars of starters in two litre jars.  I kept them so long, that I thought they would explode if I opened them so I discarded them filled.  I am sure the land fill had a small explosion.

What is it about craft that you are most passionate about?

I love being around beautiful things and can dream of owning so many of them.
