What inspires you to be part of the Craft Council of BC’s team?

The Craft Council of British Columbia is now in its 42nd year and it is inspiring to think of all the devoted and dedicated people who have contributed to its success over the years. I hope that my work here contributes to British Columbia being known as one of the best places to make, see and collect contemporary craft in the world.

Can you share a fun fact about yourself?

When I was five I wanted to be either a unicorn or an artist! I haven’t figured out how to become a unicorn yet but I really appreciate the support that the Craft Council of BC gives to emerging artists like me.

What is it about craft that you are most passionate about?

The ways contemporary craft artists combine traditional and contemporary techniques, ideas and materials to make exciting new work really blows me away. I’m also passionate about the dynamic and vigorous role craft plays in our social, economic and cultural life and want to see it thrive!

What inspires you to be part of the Craft Council of BC’s team?

I am very inspired to a be a part of the Craft Council of BC team in helping to support the practice of contemporary making and for emphasizing creativity as a means to integrate community.

Can you share a fun fact about yourself?

In 2012 I rode my bicycle from Vancouver to Mexico with 3 friends where we explored alternative creative practices along the West coast of Canada and the US. We anticipate another 6000km journey in biking across Canada next year!

What is it about craft that you are most passionate about?

I find the practice of craft fascinating with the history behind each individual medium, and the focus involved in being consistently creative with the qualities of each material.
