An exhibition by BC members of the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild (CBBAG): Paper, Art and the Book
Thursday, March 27, 2014 ― Thursday, May 08, 2014
The work of various members from the BC Islands Chapter and the BC Lower Mainland Chapter of the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild (CBBAG) will be on exhibit at the Craft Council of B.C.’s Gallery. Co-curators Frances Hunter and Gina Page hope that the exhibit will reflect the many aspects of book arts such as bound books, blank books, calligraphy, decorated paper, artists books, fine binding and printing. Many of the items on display will be for sale. Concurrent with this exhibition of book arts are several other book related events in Vancouver: The Art of the Book exhibit at UBC Special Collections Library, a book arts workshop on book box making, and at the Central Branch of the Vancouver Public Library a book arts and a mini Book Arts Fair.
The Art of the Book is a touring exhibit of juried book arts works by CBBAG members from across Canada and the US. These works will be on display at the UBC Special Collections Library from April 14 – May 16.
On Saturday March 29 there will be a workshop on book box making, sponsored by the BC Lower Mainland Chapter of CBBAG, to be held at 1 Athlete’s Way in Vancouver.
The book arts talk, “Creativity and Book Arts” is a free event co-sponsored by the Vancouver Public Library and the BC Lower Mainland Chapter of CBBAG and will be held on Thursday May 1 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the Peter Kaye/Alma Van Dusen Rooms at the Central Branch of the Library. Three speakers-Sylvia Wong, Joanne Ursino and Phyllis Greenwood-will each speak about their own book arts practices.
Finally on Saturday June 21 a Book Arts Fair will be open to the public from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Those interested may exhibit their work for sale or display only; this event is free to the public and is co-sponsored by the Vancouver Public Library and the BC Lower Mainland Chapter of CBBAG.
