Hope Forstenzer: Inside/Out: a glass sculptural exploration
Thursday, October 12, 2017 ― Thursday, November 23, 2017
In this exhibition Hope Forstenzer will expand on a theme she has noticed in her sculptures of late: our concept of self versus our physical bodies, and how they are often at odds. We see our moods, beliefs, and our likes and dislikes as “us,” when chemistry often rules how our minds work. If we’re healthy, we’re surprised that eating differently or sleeping more or exercising makes us happier. If we’re overweight, we see ourselves in a lifelong battle with our physical selves. And if we have chronic emotional and/or physical issues, we carry pain like baggage and don’t understand why we struggle with depression, anger or anxiety.
We are all transparent. We are all opaque. We are all unclear to ourselves, and when we see that we’re not alone in that, we can learn more about how we’re human.
