Textile Intersections – Sustainability and Technology
When: September 26 and 27, 2015
Where: Granville Island Hotel, Granville Island, Vancouver, BC
The Canadian Craft Federation has designated 2015 as the Year of the Craft. We want to celebrate it with all BC and Yukon textile artists and crafters.
Looking to the land, re-using materials and adapting technologies to serve the innovative and creative spirit is what working in textiles has always represented. We are hoping you will join us for two days in September to immerse yourself in the passion to create and to learn and network.
BC and Yukon textile and paper artists and crafters offer the world unique and exquisite fashions, works of art, home décor and jewellery created from influences of mountains, forests, and ocean. We adapt and adopt old and emerging technologies to suit our purposes. This conference is meant to celebrate all that we are and to provide a venue for further collaborations and learning.
Types of Sessions:
– Demonstrations: (length: either choose a 1-hour or a 2-hour session) It can be one long session that could include a new technique, an old, well-loved technique or a demonstration of new products, of recycled products, any kind of demonstration that will teach and involve the audience. Or, you may choose to do short demos that may be repeated within the allotted time.
– Presentation: (length: 1 hour) A lecture can be a trunk show or a power point presentation showcasing your work. It can also be two or more collaborating artists.
– Digital Poster Session: (length: 10 minutes) We want to encourage you to share what you are doing. The digital poster session allows you to create a slide show of your work. Send either a combined video (with audio) slide presentation that we can schedule, or come to narrate your slides and answer questions.
