bo·tan·i·cal  (bə-tăn′ĭ-kəl) also bo·tan·ic (-tăn′ĭk)
Of or relating to plants or plant life.
Of or relating to the science of botany.
While most of the materials used in traditional craft categories – clay, wood, glass, fibre and metal – are found in nature, works selected for ‘botanically inspired’ will use these materials to interpret the world of plants conceptually, figuratively or poetically. Is it the rose’s thorn that inspires a piece of furniture; the cacophony of colours throughout the garden that inspires the palate used; the fabric in a dress that has been dyed by compose; a vessel echoing the shape of a peony; wall tiles inset with leaf and floral shapes; works that evoke the quiet of the early morning mist that creeps through the garden or a piece reflecting on the impact insecticides have on those creatures that assist in the creation of a beautiful and bountiful garden….
Whether it is in the form, the design or the material used, we welcome current works by members. We are not placing any size restrictions on the work and work will be will be juried on quality of craftsmanship, design and interpretation of the theme.
In preparation for the application form, you will need:
– our CCBC membership #
– one work that is created in 2014 or 2015.
– artist statement of why you feel this work interprets the theme
– the name of the work
– dimensions of work
– 5 images of work including at least one detail of the work
To apply please go here prior to July 31st, 2015. You will be notified by August 15th, 2015 of the jury’s decision.
