Craft Council of BC is pleased to present polymer and mixed media jeweler and sculptor  Tory Hughes   who will be offering a technique workshop for Artists across all disciplines. Tory’s goal for this workshop is to show you how your current aesthetic might be expanded by adding polymer clays to your materials!

Workshop: Saturday, Sept 12 and Sunday, Sept 13, 2015 | 10am-5pm
Carousel Theater, 1411 Cartwright Street, Granville Island
Space limited to 10 participants. Workshop Fee $180.

This two day workshop will introduce you to Polymer clays, an exceptionally versatile and responsive media that can be used in 2-D and 3-D artwork. You control the color, texture, shape, translucency, patterning and more, and can use it to create free-standing forms as well as apply it to other media and surfaces. In this fast-paced workshop, you’ll learn about polymer clays (we’ll use Fimo Professional) via “Mokume Gane”, an ancient Japanese metalworking technique adapted for polymer to its great advantage.

First, you will learn to create your own palette of colored and textured claybodies.

Then you’ll use these colors to fabricate your own unique array of individual patterned polymer elements. Next, you’ll apply your polymer elements to various flat and shaped objects. Tory will show you a range of objects that she patterns with Mokume Gane: artists’ books, wall art, mobiles, brooches, vessels, sculptures, necklaces boxes, and more. She’ll offer ideas and inspire ways you can use polymer clays to develop what interests you most. You’ll leave with a solid grasp of how polymer clays can carry your aesthetic further!
