Barbara Beamiss began creating jewellery as both an expressive outlet and because she loved making pieces she couldn’t find elsewhere. After obtaining her degree in Interior Design and prior to finding employment in that field, she took a weekend class in soldering and began forming metal, making simple band rings and linked necklaces, mostly for her own use as well as that of her extended family Although she eventually found work as an interior designer she soon learned that the job was less about creativity and more about AutoCAD than she wanted and began to crave the hands-on aspect of designing and making jewellery. She decided to leave her job to pursue the design of small objects rather than interior spaces. Her quest to date has led her from her initial forming techniques to wax carving, which is what she continues to work on today.
