Allan started woodturning in high school in Cobourg, Ontario but took serious interest in the craft after moving to British Columbia in 1994. He belongs to two local woodturners’ guilds and the American Association of Woodturners. He currently writes woodturning articles for Canadian Woodworking Magazine in Ontario.
Allan has studied with many world class turners at demonstrations, seminars and symposiums. He is recognized for his specialized wedding goblets with captive rings turned right on the stem. He also creates salad bowls, platters, Christmas ornaments, engraved pens, and unique hollow vessels. He takes specific interest in perfecting a fine finish. His goal is to make each creation unique by embellishing the wood’s grain patterns and natural coloration.
Many of his pieces have become cherished pieces of displayed art.
Allan constantly looks for that special piece of wood Mother Nature has made for him to transform into a beautiful piece of functional art.
