Having returned to Canada after living in the tropics for 20 years, I often see my country as a stranger might. I find I want to reconnect with this culture I was born in; making art is a way for me to see with clearer eyes and a way of coming to an understanding of myself and the world around me. I have always been a maker. My work today, a departure from my years of creating in Ghana, emphasizes the green, rich world of the West Coast. The repetitive actions of stitching or weaving tapestry combined with the mental work of constant planning and decision making inspires a flow of rediscovery. Through my textile work and my relocation, I am finding connections with nature and my past.
