Helen Kovacs

Medium: Glass

Region: Vancouver Coast & Mountains

Helen’s intent is to communicate her inner life, as a response or result of her interaction with her environment. Helen wants to describe the physical and spiritual reality of nature.

The translucency of glass gives it a fourth dimensional quality using light to describe an inner glow or a search for beauty. Nature and a love of color are her greatest inspirations in which she immortalizes the beauty of her environment in glass, mixed media and steel. The bead making comes as a need to create a talisman to adorn and protect the wearer.Working with steel is a physical act that started out as making supports for her glass and has now taken on a life of it’s own. Helen has created many sculptures for private gardens businesses and homes.

Helen uses glass to describe myths and stories to bring the past and present together, identifying with a European cultural past and celebrating how it affects her. Glass is the most challenging and beautiful material Helen has had the pleasure to work with.
