At the core of jewellery designer Erica Leal’s practice is a keen interest in the role that objects play in our culture. Blending traditional metalsmithing with the output of new technologies she explores form, colour and mass production in the digital age.

Beginning her studies in London, England at the Camberwell College of Art and Design she then completed a degree in metalsmithing and holloware at the Nova Scotia College of Art. In her final year of study she was a runner up in the La Fanierre and Pai’s national student jewellery award. Upon graduation she travelled to New York City to work for acclaimed fashion jewellery designer Pamela Love. She has been a Artist in Residence at the Harbourfront Center in Toronto and was awarded a work-study scholarship for the Haystack Mountain School of Craft.  Erica has recently relocated to Vancouver, BC where she designs from her home studio.
