artist statement

I am a Welsh/ Canadian multidisciplinary artist living in the small community of Cumberland on Vancouver Island. As an immigrant to Canada from Wales as a young adult, I continue to be influenced by the textile crafts of my childhood and their power to invoke place and connection.

In my practice, I make textile-based objects that hold the potential for creating new relationships with communities, species, and landscapes other than my own. This work often begins with a period of research into local material cultures and expands into serial works that can be labour intensive or ephemeral in nature. Part of my process is to take the objects that I craft beyond the studio and document, through photography and the written word, the interactions they provoke. This draws upon my research into practices of embodiment and eco-biography. At the heart of each project lies the question “How might we relate here?”
