Kaarina received her craft training at Capilano University in North Vancouver and also holds a Geology degree from the University of Toronto. Her pieces are characterised by a strong degree of precision and exactness – perhaps evidence of a previous programming career in computer mapping. She plays an active role in the craft community, having been on the Board of the Circle Craft Co-op for several years, including three years as Chair.

artist statement

I’ve always been attracted to the sense of harmony and balance that I see in Japanese craft, and I try to achieve a similar sense in my own work. I also incorporate a lot of vintage elements in my pieces because I love the idea of the cycle of fashion.
