artist statement

All the Ways We Are Connected centres on the ‘threads’ of storytelling and connection we share, explored through the media of ceramics and light. As an artist who works across media, I have been exploring ways my work can more clearly speak to the multi-layered narratives of our world. How can we engage with the world and each other while also ‘bringing to light’ our collective experiences?  So much we encounter daily tells us about our disconnection from each other and the world we inhabit. All the Ways We Are Connected offers another story (many more stories) about our togetherness, our collaborations, and the possibility of shared action and agency in resistance to the precariousness and despair many see reflected in the world. This project merges the work I have been developing in ceramic lighting, functional pottery, illustration, and textiles. The ceramic forms (which house the lights) are hand-built, cast globes made from Polar Ice clay (which is translucent when fired). This project is about our shared connections and how seeing our collective narratives can transform our lives, each other, and possibly the world.
