About Our Projects

The Craft Council of British Columbia (CCBC) plays a pivotal role in advancing contemporary craft in BC. Our initiatives celebrate and support the dynamic craft community through various projects, exhibitions, and collaborations. These efforts showcase the creative talents of artists from BC and beyond.

Exploring Craft Practices

CCBC is committed to promoting a deeper understanding of contemporary craft in BC. We highlight the diverse material and cultural geographies that shape our work. From traditional techniques to innovative approaches, our projects explore a rich variety of media. These include ceramics, textiles, metal, glass, and wood.

Collaborative Projects and Community Engagement

Through projects like Personal and Material Geographies, Walking Alongside Trauma, and Dance: Craft, CCBC encourages meaningful dialogues between artists and communities. These initiatives create spaces where people can appreciate craft not just for its aesthetic value but for its role in addressing social, cultural, and environmental issues. They also help build stronger relationships among diverse cultural and artistic communities.

Supporting Indigenous Artists

CCBC is also dedicated to supporting Indigenous artisans. Through initiatives like the Indigenous Art Audit Project, we work to ensure that Indigenous-themed products sold on Granville Island are authentically made or designed by Indigenous artists. This project helps us combat cultural appropriation and supports the visibility of Indigenous craft in BC. Read the full report of the audit here

Digital Resources and Archiving Contemporary Craft in BC

Our Digital Craft Archive and BC Ceramics Marks Registry offer vital resources for the craft community. These initiatives preserve the history and evolution of contemporary craft in BC. By making these digital collections available to the public, we ensure that future generations can learn from and build upon the foundation laid by today’s craft artists. These resources also serve as tools for research, education, and the growth of the craft sector.
