curatorial statement

In celebration of a decade of operation, the Vancouver Metal Arts Association invited its members to their biennial Juried Exhibition at the Craft Council of British Columbia. The VMAA welcomed jewelers, metal artists and students of these disciplines to participate in this edition called Evolving Spaces: Transitional in Nature.

When a physical or emotional space breaks its state and can no longer foster us, we push forward under new conditions. Shrinking rooms, displacement, changes of perspective, self discovery, and the search for safety are some of the many things that can propel us to a new normal. But what do we find in those liminal spaces that we all inhabit? In between what is lost and what will be gained we may discover what is.

The work selected for this exhibition explores what becomes present in those evolving spaces.
