artist statement
Lisa has created these animal sculptures from wire armatures with the use of wool roving, natural embellishments, and hand-dyed silks.
Wet and Nuno felting provides her with an organic, natural medium to express the rugged natural beauty of the West Coast of British Columbia. The materials of wool roving and silk have infinite possibilities and allow Lisa to create from the soul, with a blank slate, no patterns or instructions require. The ancient craft of wool felting is a life sustaining form of creativity for Lisa, one where discovery is endless.
artist bio
Lisa Forbes was born and raised in the interior of British Columbia, Canada. She came from second generation pioneer logging, ranching and farming families of the North Shuswap and Chase areas, influencing her love of nature and the outdoors.
Lisa and her husband, Douglas Forbes, moved to the Comox Valley in 2000 to retire. This quiet lifestyle and her introverted nature allow her to follow her creative spirit to share our unique and beautiful land, sea, and life.
She has been felting for seven years. Before discovering this, she was an avid self-taught seamstress from a very young age, starting on her mother’s treadle machine. Since then, she has been very fortunate to have taken numerous on-line and in-person courses from many amazing international masters. Lisa usually works with private designers and clients creating a range of eclectic pieces including wall hangings, garments, and accessories.
