artist statement

Growing up in northern British Columbia, I draw inspiration from my early experiences along the Pacific coast and the time spent in my family’s construction yard. Surrounded by mountains at the end of the Portland Canal, my work reflects a deep connection to nature and an enduring fascination with my environment. As a child, I spent countless hours on the water with my father and grandfather, mesmerized by the tides’ rhythm or hammering nails into a 2×4 simply for the joy of it. These formative experiences now shape my creative practice, where themes of industry and nature converge.
My latest show, Tides of Metal, explores the tension and harmony between organic and industrial forms. Incorporating steel, nuts, and nails, I contrast rigid, mechanical elements with fluid, wave-like motifs using techniques such as micro welding, wax carving, and stone setting, reflecting both my upbringing and my artistic inquiry into the intersections of natural and built environments.
