Caitlyn Chapman is a designer and metalsmith based on Vancouver Island. With a background in fine art, fashion, and photography, Caitlyn began a self-guided journey in learning metalsmithing back in 2018. She built a foundation in hand fabrication, and spread into learning lost wax casting and wax sculpting in 2022. She now uses a combination of both in her work, seeking to echo forms and textures found in nature.
artist statement
I am inspired by the act of working with my hands to create tiny wearable works of art. My designs are inspired by the wild west coast, and I love interpreting that in a way that is not necessarily directly representational, but evokes a feeling through form and texture. The idea that my pieces are worn on the bodies of the folks who appreciate my vision is absolutely thrilling to me, and presents a continuation of the piece’s evolution- how it’s styled, the way it patinas, and what it represents to the wearer.
