Chris Wenger is a YouTube taught blacksmith who is increasingly and endlessly fascinated by how metal can be bent, shaped, and reimagined into anything. Having been introduced to metalwork by his son, Chris is excited to explore the possibilities and frustrations of learning something new daily. The joy of making the tools required to expand into the ancient realms of metalsmithing is just one of the pleasures that goes with his journey of creation. Work always seems to be divided into ‘tool days’ and ‘project days’. Chris currently lives at the end of a long gravel road near Kamloops, BC Canada.
artist statement
As a novice blacksmith, I am excited by all the possibilities of working with metal. Whenever I step into my shop, I feel as if I have entered a world in which applying the right amount to heat and finesse can create something almost unbelievable. I am drawn to the history of this artform and love to find the touch of other craftsmen while travelling throughout the world. With every success, and with every failure, I am more and more enthralled by the joy of learning to move metal into the shapes and forms that I choose.
