artist statement
I am a visual artist specializing in handwoven textiles, which I create using traditional floor looms. The textile manufacturing industry has undergone a massive transformation over the past two centuries, significantly impacting the globe and its population. This has led me to focus on the homogeneity of mass-produced items and their obscure origins, recognizing how this homogeneity can lead to cultural negation. I counter this negation through weaving, creating a personalized culture that reflects my community. In rejection of the imposed culture of blindly accepting overseas-made textiles, I have founded a weaving studio equipped with five traditional floor looms. The studio offers workshops and textile education aimed at reviving lost traditional making practices.
