Kara Brauen is a Vancouver-based self-taught embroidery artist whose work explores themes of connection and the magic inherent in our universe. With a background in illustration and design, she began her embroidery practice in 2021, and her work has since been a vivid meditation on the threads that bind us together.
Kara uses cotton thread, canvas, and playful colour palettes to study the ways we influence and are influenced by the world around us, creating pieces that attempt to challenge the traditional boundaries of where art and its environment begin and end. Her work has been shown in several group exhibitions around British Columbia.
I am in love with life, and in love with colour. I am in love with the threads that bind people and communities together. Through my work I explore ideas of connection – with others, with the self, with the universe.
