about
Born and raised in the interior of British Columbia, Canada, Lisa Forbes’ families were involved in pioneer logging, ranching, and farming, which nurtured her appreciation for nature and outdoor activities. Lisa and her husband, Douglas Forbes, moved to the Comox Valley in 2000 to retire, embracing the natural wonders of the Salish Sea and Island life. Lisa’s artistic evolution took a significant leap forward in 2018 when she discovered the transformative potential of wet and Nuno felting. This new chapter in her creative journey allowed Lisa to deepen her exploration of texture, color, and form, aligning her work even more closely with the rugged landscapes that have always inspired her. Her dedication to mastering the craft led her to immerse herself in workshops, both locally and internationally, where she studied under renowned felting masters. Lisa’s creations increasingly reflect this collaborative spirit, merging personal vision with the techniques and insights shared by her mentors and peers.
artist statement
In the spring of 2018, I began exploring wet and Nuno felting. Wet and Nuno felting offered me an organic medium to represent the natural beauty of the West Coast of British Columbia, allowing for creative expression without patterns or instructions. Originally focused on garments, hats, and bags, my creative direction shifted when encouraged by family to create wall pieces. Inspired by nature, I embarked on a journey of expressive creativity. The process itself is both meditative and invigorating, allowing me to channel the dynamic energy of nature into tactile, expressive art forms. Over the past seven years, I have participated in multiple in-person and online workshops instructed by international felting experts who have fuel my thirst for new ideas and techniques. This journey has also led to me to meet many wonderfully interesting, funny, entertaining, like-minded individuals. Thank you all for enhancing and participating in this wonderful journey with me, My heart and soul are full. ♥️
