artist statement

Glass has long been a favoured material, which I chose to explore with a sculptural perspective. While investigating the optical properties of glass, I realized the constraints posed by being limited to one material. Drawing on my experience with metal, the integration of glass and bronze provided a means to establish a dialogue between these two disparate materials and explore the tension that exists between strength and fragility.

I see my sculpture as an investigation of the archaeology of daily life, exploring both form and material, to create contemporary objects that have an implied reference to once-familiar tools, utensils and functional objects. The sculptural qualities of these familiar objects hold a particular fascination for me as I ponder their use and the aesthetic decisions of their makers, and then re-interpret design and scale, which results in objects that offer impractical solutions for imagined tasks.
