about

Momoko Rodriguez is a ceramic artist based in Keremeos, British Columbia, creating one-of-a-kind functional works shaped by the quiet rhythms of everyday life.
Her pieces are made to be held, used, and lived with, becoming gentle companions in daily routines.

Since 2024, Momoko has been sharing her work at artisan craft markets in Vancouver, the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre in Burnaby, the Powell Street Festival, and throughout the South Okanagan.
Alongside her ceramic practice, she works in local agriculture, where close observation of crops, flowers, plants, insects, and animals deeply influences her creative process.
The natural curves, lines, and subtle geometries of the fields find their way into her forms and surface designs.

Through sgraffito and intuitive mark-making, Momoko brings movement, texture, and quiet stories into each piece.
She values artisan markets as places of meaningful exchange, where conversations, smiles, and shared stories become part of the work itself.
These encounters inform her future creations and deepen the connection between maker and user.

Guided by touch, comfort, and visual warmth, Momoko’s ceramics are created with the hope of bringing small moments of joy and quiet beauty into everyday life.

artist statement

My practice is rooted in everyday life, in the quiet relationship between hands, objects, and time. I create handbuilt, functional ceramic pieces meant to be used, touched, and lived with, allowing them to become gentle companions in daily rituals.

Working alongside local agriculture shapes the way I see and make. The forms of crops, flowers, plants, insects, and animals—along with their lines, rhythms, and subtle geometries—guide my designs. These natural impressions flow into my work through intuitive mark-making and surface patterns.

When forming each piece, I carefully consider size, balance, and lightness so it feels comfortable and natural in the hand. In my use of underglaze, I place great importance on color coordination, creating harmony and visual warmth. My vessels are designed to blend into everyday life while holding a quiet individuality.

Sgraffito is my signature technique. Through carving and drawing into the surface, I give each piece its own story, movement, and character. Artisan markets are an essential part of my process, where conversations, smiles, and shared stories become research for my next creations.

I approach each work with care and attentiveness, hoping to offer small moments of joy, comfort, and a gentle connection between the maker, the user, and the natural world.
