about
Natasha Bakas is a Vancouver based multi-disiplinary artist working in ceramics, painting and collage. She began her artistic journey at a figure drawing class through the Vancouver School Board and went on the study at Langara’s Fine Arts Program from 2007-2009. Since then, she has continued to hone her skills through various courses at the Canvas Method, Emily Carr Continuing Studies, and ceramics studios. In 2024, Natasha resumed her formal education in visual arts and is currently completing her BFA at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. She is refining her technical skills in ceramics and advancing her knowledge of form, function, and glaze chemistry. Natasha’s work explores themes such as the rawness of the human body and the facets of the mind, references to Greek mythology and symbolism, and current geopolitical shifts in trade and the movement of goods.
artist statement
I am a multi-disciplinary artist whose body of work includes painting, collage, mixed media, and ceramics. My current ceramic practice is diverse as I explore the range of possibilities in this medium, both in form and surface design. My ceramics range from decorative to communicative. I enjoy the ability to merge function with artistic expression. In resuming my formal education in visual arts, I have been inspired to create work with social, political, and cultural context. I wish to create a visual language that invites discourse about current events and contemporary issues.
