In the enchanting realm of fashion, where creativity knows no bounds, Blackford Design emerges as a timeless tapestry woven by the visionary artist, Stephanie Blackford. With its inception in 1988, Blackford Design has been a sanctuary for the manifestation of Stephanie’s wearable art clothing creations, an ongoing symphony of exquisite craftmanship. The seeds of this adventure were sown in 1987, when Stephanie graduated from the illustrious Costume Design Program at Dalhousie University. Since then Stephanie has dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her craft, as a full-time artisan whose creations have graced many events across Canada. Nestled in the serene enclave of Qualicum Beach is Stephanie Blackford’s home studio, where with hands and heart, she breathes life into her wearable art.
artist statement
I am manifesting my artistic dreams full-time in my home studio located in Qualicum Beach, B.C. where I am constantly inspired by the natural beauty of Vancouver Island.
My original art and photography are the foundation for the embroidery and needle felting designs that I apply to my unique wearable art clothing designs. I makes all of my patterns from scratch using my own fitting principles that I have developed over the last 36 years of making my wearable art creations. The main fibres I use include Bamboo, Cotton, Wool, Linen and Silk. The processes I employ include Sewing, Felting, Spinning, Knitting, Weaving and Embroidery. My wearable art is sold by size and by made to measure custom orders.
My wearable art creations are handmade in my home based studio in Qualicum Beach with my hands and heart only!
