artist statement
My art practice explores the intersections of cultural heritage, identity, and contemporary art, drawing deeply from my upbringing in China and my life in Vancouver, Canada. Grounded in the rich traditions of ceramics, my sculpture and installation work weave together classical techniques—such as woodfiring and hand-building—with contemporary forms, found objects, and mixed media.
I am fascinated by the narratives embedded within materials and processes, viewing clay as both a physical medium and a conceptual bridge between past and present. Organic forms and symbolic motifs, inspired by historical and environmental influences, frequently emerge in my work, layering personal and collective experiences. By reimagining traditional aesthetics and integrating unexpected elements, I aim to provoke reflection on cultural hybridity, the stories objects convey, and their enduring resonance across time and space.
