artist statement

Tunnel invites you to step into another world as your eye is drawn down the long, fabric-lined corridor. The interplay of texture and form creates moments of reflection, where time seems to slow and attention lingers.

This immersive quality reflects a broader theme in my practice: the intersection of sustainability, creativity, and the natural world. I use secondhand and reclaimed materials—like old yarn, fabric scraps, and found objects—to transform what might be discarded into something beautiful and unexpected. This approach challenges the traditional boundaries between craft and fine art.

While nature remains a key influence, Tunnel marks a new direction in my practice. It shifts focus from organic textures to spatial perception, using illusion and scale in ways I haven’t before. As it’s the largest fibre work I’ve created so far, it has been an exciting step forward in both concept and form.

I create textile work inspired by the Land Art movement. Through mixed media and the reuse of secondhand materials, I challenge conventional notions of craft and fine art materials to produce art. My work often revolves around monochrome colour schemes such as, the shades of greens of moss or the values of blue in coral to create a variety of textures creating depth and visual interest. My goal is to create a series of textiles and other media that surprise the viewer about the use of upcycled materials.
