The Craft Council of BC presents the return of the Art of Craft Speaker Series to be held in celebration of the Council’s 50th anniversary with keynote speaker Lou Lynn.
2021 Saidye Bronfman Awardee and BC glass artist Lou Lynn continuously explores the archaeology of daily life, through form and material. Lou will be presenting a retrospective talk as a glass artist and long-time member of the Craft Council of BC.
Lou Lynn creates contemporary objects that have an implied reference to once-familiar tools, utensils and functional objects, but that leave the question of purpose hanging in the air. The sculptural qualities of hand tools hold a particular fascination for her as she ponders their use and the esthetic decisions of their makers, and then re-interpret design and scale, which results in objects that offer impractical solutions for imagined tasks. Her sculpture has been exhibited nationally and internationally and can be found in numerous public collections.
2022 Micki MacKenzie Awardee Ilana Fonariov will be giving a presentation of her work and program at Selkirk School of Arts in Nelson, BC. She will also be presenting the finished artwork for the MacKenzie Collection.
Ilana Fonariov is a self-taught potter living and working in Galiano Island. Ilana is a lover of clay and its malleability; she is drawn to black clay most of all, for its drama and starkness and for the challenge of finding ways to soften it.
During the celebration, the CCBC will present the recipients of the 2023 Craft Awards, including the Micki MacKenzie Educational Craft Bursary, the Citizen of Craft Award and the Grace Cameron Rogers Award.
