Dawn Livera uses litter that she finds on the street (clean litter, but garbage nonetheless) to inspire small hand stitched textile sculptures made entirely from scrap fabrics.
At the centre of this exhibition is a hand knotted fishing net that gathers both the original pieces of litter and the stitched works they inspired.
Rather than making exact replicas, Dawn uses each piece of litter as a starting point to make something new and unique.
Familiar product labels become playful or thought-provoking messages, while imperfect stitches and subtle variations celebrate the individuality that mass production cannot replicate.
Yes, it is absurd to spend many hours recreating something that was designed to be casually thrown away. It is also an opportunity to slow down, look again and wonder what might change if we took the time to give overlooked things, and perhaps even ourselves, a little more attention
